Watersports and Diving

Wexford is surrounded by water on two sides and the River Slaney runs through the center of the county from North to South. The river Barrow flows along the west of the county through New Ross. There is a lot of water in Wexford! Many activities are based around it.

If you are on the river or the sea be careful as the air is clear and pollution free it is very easy to get sunburned.

Consider:

Kayaking on the Slaney

Slaney Adventures offer a wonderful experience for beginners, adults or families to kayak on an undisturbed section of the Slaney River where it flows through rich Wexford land at its most lush and verdant. Avril and Justin Murphy two fully qualified instructors with a wealth of white rafting experience from around the world will turn a normal day into an exciting adventure on the river. They offer day afternoon and evening packages. All equipment you will need is supplied.

Taking a trip up the Slaney River from Wexford Harbour

Harbour Thrills run power boat trips right from Wexford Quay past the round tower in Ferrycarrig and through the reedy atmospheric Heritage Centre up the Slaney River to Killurin.

They also will do a trip out to the Raven Head. Watch out for seals and there have been sightings of whales, porpoises and dolphins.  The trip gives a most unusual of view of Wexford town from the sea on the return journey its skyline  dominated by the spires of the twin churches of Rowe Street and Bride Street  and  more recently the jauntily angled roof new Opera House. The Harbour and the Surrounding Slob Area is one of the most important ornithological sites in the country at time playing host to almost 50,000 birds.
